OUR INITIATIVES

PROMOTING EQUITY
Tackling the Issue
Southington Women for Progress works to promote equity in our community by making sure that we are reflecting both the diversity in our town and the diversity that we all encounter in the wider world. Initiatives have included:
Speaking at the Board of Education on 1/10/19 to request systemic changes to increase educational equity in Southington
Donating 139 books with diverse characters to Derynoski Elementary School's library (click here to access the Amazon wishlist and contribute!)
Sponsoring a peaceful protest of a statue of Christopher Columbus installed and dedicated in 2017 in front of the municipal center.

MEETING THE NEED
Making a Difference
Southington Women for Progress is dedicated to supporting all community members - and women in particular - so that they have their essential needs met.
Initiatives have included:
Sponsoring a shelf at Southington Community Services' food pantry
Donating over 3,000 feminine hygiene products to For Goodness' Sake
Donating essential items to the girls of Winifred House on Birchcrest Drive
Competing in (and winning!) the 2018 Southington Education Foundation Spelling Bee, a fundraiser for SEF's important work with Southington Public Schools
Fundraising for My Sisters' Place as part of their annual 5K race, including winning an award for "Most Generous Team" in 2017.
